Anniversary Gift from the Vatican

Vatican gift
Fr. Mike and his family gathered at the 10:00 service on October 18th to bless a new chalice and paten into service at Holy Family.  The set was presented as a gift to the parish by the Galvin family.  During Fr. Mike’s sabbatical this past summer, he and daughter Kelsey made a pilgrimage to the Vatican in Rome.  While there, they purchased the set as a gift celebrating the 25th Anniversary of Holy Family Episcopal Church.  (Pictured from left; Rachelle, Kelsey, Abby and Fr. Pack 6
This weekend a crew of volunteers from the congregation shared their helping hands and happy hearts to pack and move items out of our education wing in preparation for construction in that area. In typical Holy Family fashion, even the kids got involved and were very helpful with moving and lifting items. Thank you to everyone who came out to clear the classrooms in record time. This week, children in our Sunday school and Youth Group programs finished their fall unit about the Miracles of Jesus. Children and teachers presented a few magic tricks to the group and shared in a meaningful discussion about why the miracles of Jesus were much more than just magic.
Planning
Following the discussion, the children got into small groups and planned out ways to present the bible stories we reviewed through charades. The stories included Jesus walking on water, calming the storm, healing the blind and paralyzed, filling the nets with fish, and feeding the five thousand.

Feeding the Five Thousand

Can sculpture
Our Miracles of Jesus unit continued with the story of the Feeding of the Five Thousand. The children brainstormed ways to help feed the “five thousand” in their community. As a final activity, the students used canned and boxed goods donations given by congregation members as well as those collected at the recent Fishers High School Choirs concert to create a sculpture of a boat, The boat stood in the Narthex as a reminder to bring more food donations before the items were delivered to the Delaware Township Trustee’s food pantry. In total, over seven hundred pounds of food were delivered to the food pantry to restock their shelves for families in need.

Members of Holy Family’s Youth Group participated in a weekend camping trip to Mounds State Park. In addition to canoeing on the White River, they enjoyed sharing fellowship and singing songs around the campfire. Special thanks are extended to Youth Group Director Marty Blake and parents Lauren and Andy Wilson for chaperoning the trip.
