Pentecost Celebration 2018
On Sunday, May 20th, Holy Family celebrated the Feast of Pentecost at its 8 and 10 AM services. Many congregation members wore the color red which is the liturgical color for the day. During the 10 AM service, Father Bruce recognized and blessed Sunday school teachers as well as Confirmation and Adult Forum leaders. Finally, Father Bruce recognized graduating senior Ethan Everett. Jeff Waddell and Carly Roth, also graduating seniors, were not able to attend this blessing. Following the service, congregation members and guests enjoyed a pitch-in picnic with entrees grilled by the Brotherhood of St. Andrew. Landscape Improvements
In fall of 2017, Holy Family suffered a lightning strike to both parking lot lights and one pine tree near the sanctuary. Over time, the church has been working to replace items both inside and outside the building that were damaged by the surge of power. On May 12th, volunteers from the church, led by Building and Grounds Coordinator Stephen Hendrickson, tackled the removal of the dead tree as well as other landscape improvements. Finally, volunteers also assembled a large storage box for preschool outdoor toys. Gratitude is extended to all who helped with this project.

Sudanese Bishop Visit
The Rt. Rev. Moses Anur Ayom, Bishop of the Diocese of Athooch in the Episcopal Church of South Sudan, and Rebecca Koryom, head of the Mothers Union in that diocese, visited Holy Family on May 3, 2018 as part of their Global Missions Commission partnership. They were accompanied by The Rt. Rev. Jennifer Baskerville-Burrows, Bishop of the Diocese of Indianapolis. and The Rev. Jeffrey Bowers, Associate Rector at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church.
The Diocese of Athooch was formed in 2014 when then-Archbishop Daniel Deng Bul split the Diocese of Bor into two entities and established the new diocese north of Bor. Deng Bul retired last month and was succeeded by the Most Rev. Justin Bada Arama. The Diocese of Indianapolis had a companion relationship with the Diocese of Bor from 2002-2016. Silent Auction, Spaghetti, and Success!
Holy Family’s Youth Group members held a successful spaghetti dinner and silent auction on Saturday, April 28, 2018. Students filled many roles for the evening including running the registration table, serving as host or hostess, manning the buffet and drink tables, servings guests at dinner, and managing silent auction bids. In addition to tasty spaghetti with meatballs and homemade desserts, guests enjoyed the musical stylings of soprano Hillary Blake and pianist Doug Tannas who shared Italian arias throughout the evening.
The youth raised more than $2,000 at the event and wish to thank everyone who generously supported their upcoming mission trip efforts. For information about Holy Family’s Youth Group and mission trip work, please contact Youth Director Marty Blake at mblake@hfec.org.

Earth Day 2018
On Earth Day, April 22nd, Holy Family celebrated Earth Day in a variety of ways. During 9 AM Adult Forum, The Reverend Cathy Gray offered reflections on the holiday with those in attendance. Following the 10 AM service, everyone walked outdoors with Father Bruce to bless the Holy Family Community Garden plots as well as seeds and plants brought by worshipers. Finally, adults and children scattered native Indiana wildflower seeds along the treeline to enhance the outdoor chapel. It will be interesting to watch and see what Mother Nature provides!
